![]() quiet on the set 11/15/2005 = 02:25 PM Conversation of the Week: That Man of Mine: Alex and I are going shopping; want anything? I bought a better microphone a couple of weeks ago, 'cos I couldn't really justify a new mike for sporadic podcasts, but since I also needed a decent mike, with nice headphones, for a class I was taking, I decided that'd be worth it. So I got one, for not very expensive, and it's such a joy I wish I'd talked myself into it sooner. Unfortunately, Josh at Multiple Mentality simultaneously decided to do away with the podcasts of our entries, because he was having to do a lot of post-editing bullshit that was just simply not worth it. When your fun starts being laborious, it's time to take a step back, so I totally agree with him. But I do love me this new mike. So I've been toying with the concept of doing something audio online. 'Cos my class just finished and, while I'll be using the mike for the software I was learning in the course, it's just too much fun to keep only for that purpose. I've been doing some homework, and, on average, it costs about $60 a year to maintain a podcast, which is about $60 a year more than I actually have. So before I go insane and broke trying to turn myself from a hack writer into a hack podcaster, I'm going to post a pilot sort of audio here and see what people think. This is about 4mg. Right-click, save target as, then play it off your computer. It'll go faster, you'll be able to put it on your portable mp3 player if you want, and you won't suck up all the boutiquemistress' bandwidth, which is something I concern myself with a lot, since she's a very nice hostess and probably wouldn't tell me if I broke her server, and I would have guilt. I do not want guilt. Thanks ever so. It's not perfect; I would clean the audio a little better after compression (this started as about seven separate tracks) and watch for exploding "p"s if I thought more than just a few people were actually going to listen to it. Oh, and Foodboy, I was thinking about this before you launched your new podcast, so I'm not being a big copycat, okay? Okay. Anyway. My bedroom door is usually open, 'cos only two of us live here and once you've seen your significant other sick (which is way more vulnerable than naked), there's no room in your relationship for propriety anymore. However, my computer is in the bedroom, so That Man of Mine has learned to stay out of the room if I have the door closed, not due to modesty, but because it almost certainly means I'm recording something and don't want his noisy ass screwing up my take. That having been said, is it wrong of me that, after I wrap, including edit and final print, I pretend I'm not done yet so he has to stay out of the room for maybe another five or ten minutes? It's just so ... peaceful. Speaking of sounds ... I'm given to understand that this woman
named her child Audio Science. If it's true, then I think she's forfeited her rights to her pre-natal figure and ought to be obliged to return it to the home office, who will reissue it to one of the more sane new moms on the planet. drinking: fresca black cherry/citrus that man of meme - September 21, 2008 7:37 PM uncanny danny - September 18, 2008 8:42 AM parrot update - September 14, 2008 1:27 PM frog update - August 30, 2008 10:49 AM
