Perma Penguin
falafel rap
02/05/2006 = 01:37 PM

Yo.
Go.

Troy Turkish Kitchen

No point in my writing an in-depth description of the restaurant here when the guy from the New Haven Register just wrote one and got paid for it.

Troy's only brand of beer is Efes, not one of my all-time favorites, but certainly the best Turkish beer available in the U.S. Anyway, I can get a falafel wrap, for prices competitive with your average fast-food restaurant meal. It will also be more healthful, more carefully-made, delicious, and satisfying, and if I get it to go, I can have my own beer when I get there.

I have no personal interest in belly-dancing, but if you do, go there on a Friday night.

The food. Oh, my heavens. So. Good.

Aside from falafel, which is my personal favorite, they do a pretty full Turkish menu, based more on what fresh ingredients are available on any particular day than on popular opinion. Trust your server and the owner - they have your best interests at heart. I go into Troy on a regular basis and say, "Surprise me," and they have never let me down. I've had so many different items that I might never have thought to try otherwise.

If you like meat, they do marvelous things with it. If you are anti-meat, or cannot have it for health reasons, the respect with which they treat vegetables and legumes is so vast, you will not miss it.

I am an omnivore - and I still order vegetarian dishes from Troy on the basis of their flavoring and preparation wisdom alone.

And the hummus is so good I go into raptures.

Have I used the word "rap," or variations thereof, enough, yet?

Tell them Golf Widow sent you.
No fooling. They know who I am.

Oh, and if you want party platters or catering, ask for Noah.
