Our city is doing its July fourth fireworks ... tonight.

Were you to comment that tonight is neither the fourth, nor July, you would be correct.

The city is making up for its quasi-patriotism and lack of tradition by — okay, they're not actually making up for it at all. It's lame and I think they recognize it.

I can't imagine whose bright idea this was, but I imagine he or she holds a high political position.

'Cos the decision to celebrate the anniversary of our nation's independence by

• holding July fourth fireworks in June
• on a weeknight
• and, furthermore, expecting people to be excited about it
• (and drum up revenue for the city)

makes about as much sense as any given political decision I've witnessed over the past year or so.
