Perma Penguin
quiet weekend
07/16/2006 = 11:00 AM

That Man of Mine had a terrible score yesterday, but in his defense, it was wicked hot, plus his partner is a worse hack than That Man is. He (the hack partner) scored a twenty on a par four, which, if you don't golf, means you are a wonderful person and I want to be your friend it took him twenty hits to get the ball into a hole where the average golfer can get it to go in using four hits.

I say it served That Man right. That'll teach him not to take me to Cooperstown for Belgium Day. (Yeah, hosed again. However, I bought my own pro-grade Belgian waffle iron last time he did this, and have since perfected my gauffres recipe. I still wanted to go, though. Ommegang on tap and cheese with hops in it. Need I say more? I think not.)

This year's shirt was way better than last year's, and we have you guys to thank. You helped us raise nearly $300 for the Hanahoe Children's Clinic, and you rock that shirt hardcore.

Mind you, That Man is an idiot, and while he remembered to have someone take his picture, it's hard to read, plus he forgot to have them take a picture of the back. Here's the front. I'll try to get the back when he comes home.

If you don't see your name, it's on the back. Shirt position and ink color of names was totally random.

UPDATE: Here are all the names on the shirt in closeup. Totally clickable.

Anyway, while Himself was out getting a horrible golf score and spilling things on the Shirt of Much Tackiness, the Mom came over and we watched an Ella Fitzgerald documentary, got our catch-up-on-news on, and ate a sort of Caribbean-inspired concoction of mine involving beef, jerk seasoning, and tropical trail mix. I make stuff like this a lot. I have yet to convince myself I'm on an island when I do so. I think it's missing an ingredient, and that ingredient is probably a cabana boy.

I was grateful to the Mom for bringing me a whole mess of books to borrow, and she was grateful to me for picking the banana chips out of the trail mix before I cooked. The Mom is the only person I know who actively hates bananas. But it's understandable. Scent of overly ripe banana + morning sickness. You do the math.

Because it's been so quiet in the house, what with That Man of Mine out playing a bad round and it being too hot to go outside and do anything constructive, I made a new podcast. Furthermore, you are now able to do one-stop Golf Widow Podcast shopping at http://www.golfwidow.podomatic.com. You can listen there, download there, and, if you've got the savvy and the inclination, there are links for subscribing to the podcast so that every time I do a new one, you'll get it automatically. I put the other three podcasts on that page too, so if you missed one when it was first posted, you didn't miss much you can still get it.

I hereby declare today a Jammies Day. I'm going to chill in the nice cool house with my borrowed books and some more iced coffee. There will be no baking involved in this day's activities, because even though the kitchen is reasonably cool, Chocolate Chaos sent me a Chaos dozen (equivalent to sixteen) cookies, including snickerdoodles. Get thee behind me, snickerdoodles.
