Please explain to me why I saw something or other on television with a guy playing Santa Claus on it (I don't remember what it was — a commercial or an appearance on a show or what-have-you) after which S-Clo addressed the camera with the greeting, "Happy Holidays."

Er, anyone who was going to be offended by Santa using the traditional "Merry Christmas" greeting was probably going to be offended by Santa being there in the first place, so that whole exercise was rather nugatory, don't you think?

Actually, it was really only silly, but sometimes I feel I ought to use the word nugatory for no good reason other than how much it sounds like nougat. This has been one of those times.
