Ganked from Jennytenny. (It's early, but I'm stuck for non-dooceable material.)
What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before? Was
welcomed into the 12%
Beer pack. Although there's so many of us, I think we're actually a case.
Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more
for next year? Let's see. Podcast: check. Writing for money: very
small checks, but yes, check. Being nicer and not so much of a bitch ... er,
did I mention how much water I drank this year?
Did anyone close to you give birth? No one really close.
A coworker had one, a few bloggers I'm very fond of but don't know in Real
Life, but that's pretty much it.
Did anyone close to you die? Not this year, knock wood.
What countries did you visit? In person? I stayed pretty
close to home. Fuel prices and all that. Through books, movies, food, and
imported beer? Pretty much every real country, plus Narnia.
What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
Peace on earth and peace of mind. Not necessarily in that order. I'll take
what I can get.
What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
November 11th, the day my brother got his vow on. I'm sure that, with a wedding
date like that, no one's ever going to forget their anniversary.
What was your biggest achievement of the year? Getting
my book published.
What was your biggest failure? The not-getting-rich from
getting my book published thing sort of bugs me.
Did you suffer illness or injury? Nothing new.
What was the best thing you bought? Can't tell you. It's
not for me and Christmas isn't here yet and the recipient reads this.
Whose behavior merited celebration?The
Mom. She put up with a lot of bullshit from all angles and maintained
her dignity when those about her were acting like Visigoths.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Someone,
whom I formerly respected, developed (or started gradually revealing) some dishonest habits, and when I called him or her out on it, he or she unleashed so
much rage, threats, and nastiness against me that I was just flabbergasted.
It sucked, it hurt, it scared me a little, and it was hard to get past the
knowledge that this person was not really the kind and thoughtful person I
had always thought he or she was.
Where did most of your money go? Bills. Bills. And anytime
I thought I had a little bit saved up, another bill.
What made you really really really excited? Seeing my book
on Amazon.
Eligible for free super saver shipping with orders over $25 and makes a groovy
holiday gift. Ahem.
What song will forever remind you of 2006? I can't really
think of one. I liked a lot of new songs this year but I don't think hearing
any of them five years from now will specifically make me say That reminds
me of such-and-such that happened in 2006.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Happier.
thinner or fatter? Thinner, but not thinner enough.
richer or poorer? Poorer. Everything that came in went
right back out again. Yay life.
What do you wish you’d done more of? Sleeping.
What do you wish you’d done less of? Answering help desk
questions without getting help desk pay.
How will you be spending Christmas? Movies and Chinese
food. Think A Christmas Story.
How will you be spending New Year’s? At home, no party,
probably a Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings DVD feature,
unless I get Pirates II for Cristkwanzukahsticestivuseid, in which
case, a Pirates DVD feature.
Did you fall in love in 2006? My primary wipeout occurred
eons ago. However, I did fall in lots of crush this year.
How many one-night stands? Zero.
What were your favorite TV programs?Cash Cab,
No Reservations, Digging for the Truth, and the new I've
Got a Secret, because the television gods are still cancelling shows
I like on the basis of my having referred to Emeril as a fry cook from Fawl
Rivah with delusions of grandeur. Bam.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No. I dislike a few people that I didn't dislike last year, but I don't hate
them. Also, I like a few new people this year, and love a few more than that.
What was the best book you read? Bar none, it was Can't
Wait to Get to Heaven by Fannie Flagg.
What was your greatest musical discovery? IQ. I know, they're
old, but I was a little slow on the uptake.
What did you want and get? The weekly award from Everyday
Hogwash.
What did you want and not get? The grand prize from Everyday
Hogwash.
What was your favorite film of this year? Well, I haven't
seen Happy Feet or Casino Royale yet, but one of those may
wind up being the It. Tilll then, I'm going with Over the Hedge.
Because of Hammy. Hammy is my brutha.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned five in dog years. I celebrated by going to work and pretending it
wasn't my birthday, including telling people that My Friend Who Isn't But
Is Sort Of had lied to them and it wasn't really my birthday.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Being able to spend my "extra" cash (from writing, the raise I got,
blah blah madmoneycakes) on myself and my peeps instead of having to be a
responsible adult with the entire wad.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Threadbare and too big. See number 32.
What kept you sane? Nothing. Do I look sane to you?
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I
will always lust madly after Tony
Bourdain. But you could break me off a piece of Josh Bernstein anytime.
What political issue stirred you the most? I feel like
Dorothy, stuck in Oz, crying "Come back!" and having George "W-for-Wizard"
Bush calling back from the basket of the war balloon, "I can't! I don't
know how it works!" Only without the ruby slippers.
Whom did you miss? My hetero-lifemate, to whom there's
no point in linking because she rarely updates anymore.
Who was the best new person(s) you met? Does Nrem
count? I met her in Real Life for the first time this year. Nrem rocks my
socks.
(Side question … whom would you like to get to know better?
I want to meet Dixie
in Real Life someday. Because Dixie also rocks my socks.)
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006: Stop
preparing for the worst, because you won't be prepared anyway. Just say fuck
it and go about your business.
Favorite memory of 2006? Going to the Surly Girl in Short
North with Nrem, drinking beer, then going back to her house for more beer
and Bruce Campbell.
No one is tagged. Do it or don't. Or do it but don't post it. It's a pretty
good exercise even if you don't share it.
drinking: tea
listening to: Morse Portnoy George, Where the Streets Have No Name (U2 cover)
cover to cover: you should have this, if for no other reason than their version of pleasant valley sunday
