![]() nz rider and the scoop on hoops 04/30/2007 = 09:25 AM The Globetrotting Milkmaid breezed through Casa Golf Widow as part of her whirlwind world tour yesterday. I say "globetrotting" because she is, in fact, touring the world, but I'll tell you, when we picked her up at the station, my first thought was, Damn, she's a LOT taller than I pictured her. She would be playing basketball if she lived here, is what I'm saying. Not necessarily for Harlem, but you get the idea. That Man of Mine took a picture of the two of us together, which I hope no one ever sees, because I am short and quite round. She looks like she's about to dribble me across and shoot me half-court for three points. The Milkmaid is no doubt shaking her head at the extreme boringness of this stopover. However, I fed her two local microbrews and introduced her to the Rapture of the Curly Fries, so I'm not a completely bloody useless hostess. Anyway, she gets to go to Hawai'i for two and a half weeks before heading back to Tomorrowland, so that should make up for any lack of fun I was able to provide. Also, I now have an outside, unbiased eyewitness to the invasion of Roger Clemens cards that has taken over my home. Speaking of basketball, here's the scoop on "Hoops," with all the inside poop that's keeping you in the loop. Sahara Aldridge is getting a room makeover, courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Story here: http://www.semissourian.com/story/1201442.html Sahara, if you'll recall, was the subject of a Rick Springfield benefit concert last winter, coupled with a massive campaign by Michael Manning to have everyone get on a big ol' tour bus and go see the concert. I couldn't make the concert, but I did contribute to Make-A-Wish at the time, and now I feel less guilty and more like I participated in something lasting — a utilitarian, yet really cool room that will be more convenient, more fun, and less cabin-feverish to hang around in at home with her tumor when she really wants to be out playing basketball and being a kid.
