What I should be doing:

  • Folding laundry
  • Vacuuming
  • Prepping dinner

What I am doing:

  • Wondering whether Grissom's departure from C.S.I. signifies the end of the series (which jumped every shark in Las Vegas years ago) or if the cast addition of Laurence Fishburne instead of Ted McGinley will save it from teloblivision (or teleblivion, I'm not sure which nonword I like better).

Of course this is a totally stupid waste of my time and brain cells. When you watch the sort of television I normally watch (MSNBC for current events, archæology or astrophysics documentaries for entertainment, BBC America for Top Gear and Dr. Who, with the occasional lighthearted side trip to world history or forensics), you get very few opportunities to spork on the shows.

The second you say, "OMG Brian Greene totally screwed up the explanation on that theory," five hundred pocket protectors jump all over your shit, and it turns into a nerd free-for-all, which is not nearly as much fun as one might think.

So I occasionally watch network television, and when I do, I see stuff like Warrick getting killed, which lets Sara back on the show just long enough to "fill in till they find a replacement," so she can boink Grissom, and then they can both go to Costa Rica and boink some more, and I can say, "Okay, could that please have been any more contrived?"

Frankly, if it dies, it dies. NCIS may not have a Freaky Deaky Bug Man™, but it does have Ducky, upon whom I crush terribly. I'll certainly get by.

And if I really need to see Laurence Fishburne, I loved him in Othello. My dorkitude knows no bounds.
