it's beginning to look a lot like weekend

It's time's like this that I really really miss Charles M. Schulz.

I have come to the conclusion that the reason you start hearing carols on the Muzak shortly after the back to school sales is that Christmas is such a letdown, one has to prolong the season in order not to feel utterly hosed.

Two weeks of dinner preparation destroyed ten minutes after everyone sits down, coupled with a year's worth of shopping for perfect gifts for people who know you so well they buy you gift certificates for stores you don't patronize, just because they have to get you something.

Thank gourd I'm a Golfwidowist. I couldn't afford to get any presents this year, so I can just keep saying it's against my religion, till I can afford presents again, at which point I'll say I'm rebelling against my religion.

(There's no point in rolling your own religion if you can't sin. You might just as well join one of the ready-made ones.)

Anyway, I've decked my fingernails (garnet polish with gold and green glitter) and that will be that for this year.

As far as holiday cards are concerned, just pretend I have gone green.
