![]() omen pigeon 02/05/2010 = 09:28 AM With only one hour of computer time per day, and not necessarily getting to visit every day, people are going to have to wait for me to do the 2010 version of "Getting to Know Your Friends", which I never forward out to emails anyway. Instead, I'm going to do my once-in-a-while recasting of Good Omens, which I will continue to do till someone finally breaks down and makes it into a film once and for all. If you have not yet read Good Omens, I am envious of you. How I wish I still had that first experience to look forward to. Please note: I am not ineffable. I'm just amusing myself. Kind of like a god, except for the not-being-ineffable bit. For the narrator, who also will have to throw in a bunch of the footnotes, I thought a new, or rather expanded, version of the Metatron character should be introduced; someone who would kind of be in the background helping the viewer understand what's going on until his ultimate appearance in the story itself. And who better to play the Metatron than Alan Rickman, who has experience with the character? On we go, now. Aziraphale: Sir Ian McKellen If you need to ask why, just go away and come back later. I can't bear to try to cast the kids. I don't know any young British actors anymore. The last time I played this game, I cast Rupert Grint as Brian, and now he's grown up. That having been said, I think Emma Watson would be awesome as Anathema Device (doubling up as Agnes Nutter, Witch, for any flashbacks), but I'm guessing she doesn't want to be typecast as a sorceress forever, so I'm going to suggest, timidly, Anne Hathaway, who has proven to me that she can find her way around a British accent with little or no trouble. I digress a lot when I do this. Speaking of Harry Potter actors, though, I bet Bonnie Wright would make a good War. I want to see Roger-Lloyd Pack play Shadwell, and Jennifer Saunders play Madame Tracy. I think I would like Martin Freeman as Newton Pulsifer (doubling up as Thou-Shalt-Not-Commit-Adultery Pulsifer — don't ask if you don't know; just go get the damned book already — for flashbacks). Death can pretty much be played by anyone, but they really should get James Earl Jones as the voice. That's about the one thing that has stayed constant every time I have done this exercise. Pollution: Paul Bettany. Oh, wait. One other set of characters has stayed constant. I still think this would be inspired casting. Hastur: Michael McKeon. Oh, come on. Work with me, here. I want to see Melanie Lynskey play Sister Mary Loquacious, but other than that, I figure I've exhausted my wish list. However, I've got other people I'd like to see pop in for cameos here and there, so here's that list. Kurt Russell as Elvis. It's not a big role, but again, we know he can do it. Throw the rest of these people in wherever they might fit: Johnny Depp Et cetera, et cetera. (Please, somebody, anybody, make this damned movie before, as always happens to me, my choices get too old to play their parts, or, in the case of Richard Harris, die.)
